History of Ma & Pa's Kettle Restaurant

On February 1, 1991 Sherri and Neal Slaughter purchased "Gene's Cafe" at 311 West Grand in Cameron, Missouri, a small diner that seated about  60 people.  They soon changed the same to "Sparky's Diner".  The name Sparky was Neal's nickname during the years he spent as an electrician.  Sparky's Diner continued to operate until 1996 when the Slaughters built a new building at 601 Baldwin Road in Cameron.  The new facility, which seats 185 people, was much larger and more modern than Sparky's was.

The Slaughters were determined that the same dedication to quality and customer service that made Sparky's everyone's favorite place to eat, would be continued at the new restaurant.  Even though these qualities would be continued, the Slaughters felt that a more fitting name would be given to the new restaurant.  Ma & Pa's Kettle was chosen as the new name.  The new facility was opened on July 1, 1996.  The same great, made from scratch, quality and down-home country hospitality, that was started in 1991 at Sparky's Diner, is still thriving at Ma & Pa's Kettle Restaurants today.

"The food and service were both exceptional!  We were passing through on the way to Kansas Speedway and every opportunity I have, I will eat there.  Thanks for having such a great, quality restaurant!"  Holly Manatt
